Malcolm was kind enough to let me make a bead, which I will get to pick up tomorrow!!! I was also pretty excited when a woman walked in and said her name was Carol and she is my Dad's cousin on his Mother's side. Like my 2nd cousin, David, I've never met her before. She stayed with me all morning and into the afternoon! It was so nice to sit and talk with her, and learn a little bit more about a side of my family that I didn't even know existed. Thanks so much Carol! It was so nice to meet you!
Next was the University of Minnesota's Amplatz hospital. I met a sweet woman named Rachel, and she took me upstairs through their gorgeous new building, and introduced me to a wonderful family with a beautiful baby girl with the most gorgeous blue eyes. Unfortunately, that was the only family I was able to meet, but I was happy to get the opportunity!
After the hospital visit, I walked over to the Ronald McDonald house, a couple of miles away and finally got the chance to meet Lizzie Bell. She is 19 years old, and a few years back, she and her family got on the TV show, Extreme Makeover- Home edition. The garden center I work for back home, Civano, donated the plants for their yard on the show, and Lizzie is a member of Beads of Courage. She has a disease called Diamond Blackfan anemia <---- click to learn more!
Lizzie has needed blood transfusions her entire life, and FINALLY after 19 YEARS, they finally found a match for bone marrow and she is up here in Minneapolis recovering for 6 months at the Ronald McDonald house. I was so happy to meet her! I have been stalking her since she was on TV, and I stayed for 2 1/2 hours and it felt more like 5 minutes. I'm hoping she will be home when I get back, and she can come to my "Welcome home" party. :)
David came and got me at 8 PM, and we made our way home. What an amazing day!!! I meet so many wonderful people, and hopefully touch a few lives.
