I know my walk isn't for another 6 months or so but I wanted to write something on here anyway... This past Thursday was Thanksgiving, and this was really the first Thanksgiving where I took some time to really think about what I was thankful for, in which I learned, is quite a lot.
I have been extremely fortunate to have so many wonderful people in my life who truly love me. My family and friends have always stood beside me in whatever crazy venture I had gotten myself into and have always believed in me. My Walk across America will be the biggest undertaking of my life (so far) and I know everyone is worried for me. I hope they all understand that I have put a lot of thought- in fact, almost all my spare thought- into doing this and I understand what may happen while I'm on the road. I hope they know that I have mentally prepared myself for this, and in the coming months I plan on physically preparing myself as best I can as well. I also would love for them, and everyone else who might read this or follow me on my journey, to understand this world has a lot more good than evil in it and I truly believe I will be just fine. I hope that they can rest assured that I will do everything in my power to keep it that way.
I am also very thankful for being able to have done all the traveling I have. Seeing the world and having no choice but to put my trust in strangers (much of the time they don't even speak the same language as me) has taught me a lot in how to read people; tone of voice, body language, trusting my instincts, and knowing when I need to just walk away, or when to standup for myself... I think the biggest lesson I had learned while traveling is:
"If you smile at the world, the world will smile back."
As I carry on in preparing for my Walk, I will keep an open mind and listen to advice and ideas from anyone who cares to share them with me and will continue to be forever grateful for all I have.
