Today was a 23 mile day and pretty easy going, but slow. I got stopped by yet another Highway Patrol officer because of a phone call about a woman walking down the highway with a baby... He was really nice though, much more pleasant than the last one. He stopped and talked and asked what I was walking for. I was also stopped by a frantic woman who was kind enough to do two illegal U-turns to come make sure my car hadn't broken down and that I was wasn't walking with a baby........ She was funny, gave me lots of candy and an Arizona iced tea. I was also stopped by the road crew who cleans up dead animals and trash off the road. They were super nice and said they had seen me a few times, and each gave a donation. Then I was stopped by a woman who had seen me earlier and read my article in the Sheridan paper, she stopped to see if I needed a place to stay and also gave me a donation and gave me her name and number in case I needed anything. Then ANOTHER car stopped and they also said they had seen me and and read the paper, and asked if I needed anything and then they gave me a donation!!! What a day! Thank goodness my bank finally started doing mobile deposits so I can have my host write checks and I just give them the cash.
I also saw a cute little fox not too far off the road and watched him until it noticed me and took off running. This morning was super fun. It rained very early, so I just laid there and listened to the rain and watched the lighting and when it stopped, I got up and Jacklyn came and got me and her girls and took me down to where her and her husband, Dusty, where banding birds. Dusty let me hold a baby they caught and I got to help band it and check it's size and what-not. SO fun!!! Thanks for introducing me to that guys :)
Jacklyn came and got me around 6:30 tonight and we came home and ate a great dinner of pulled pork and potatoes, and I showed the girls my Beads of Courage and explained to them why I was walking so far for so long. Such cuties. After that, I headed off back to my pop-up camper with a view of their pond and listened to the storms in the distance... Pretty awesome.
