Wednesday May 8th was the first day of the of my big adventure. It started before the sun was up with my good friend Kathy, my boyfriend Richard and I driving from Seattle to the coast of Washington to a town called Ocean Shores.
Along the way we had to stop at Eagle Pride golf course to see if it was at all possible to use their golf as a means to get to Dupont, seeing as the Fort was on the other side of I-5 and I could not walk through there. I talked to a wonderful woman named Heidi who said I could walk on the course to Par 3 and take the dirt service road for the train tracks and that would take me straight to the next exit for Dupont. Great! Richard and I found the dirt road and were satisfied that that would take me to where I needed to go...
We made our way to the coast to Ocean City State Park where it was cool and cloudy and made our way down to the water where we saw three deer, and my first ever Bald Eagle right there on the beach, and where he flew away from, is where I started my Walk. Kathy helped Richard and I get set up to go and took some pictures for us before we left. Before we even made it out of the park a very, very couple named Tom and Jewels stopped to ask us what we were up to. Richard and told them about my Walk for BOC and Tom quickly invited us over to their home when we made it up to Tacoma for a warm and bed and some good food.
We finally hit the road around 11AM and walked for 10 miles or so, and came up to a nice little oyster shack called Lytle Seafoods Oyster Shack in Hoquiam. They had fantastic oysters! For buck each, and a cup of shrimp for a $1.50. Not a bad snack at all, with a beautiful view of North Bay.

That night we stayed at Hoquiam River RV Park which was absolutely wonderful! The camp hosts Denise and Gordon where the nicest people, and Richard and I felt very welcomed from the moment we arrived. We were given homemade cookies and our camp site had the perfect view of the river. The Park also had a huge club house where we ate dinner and worked on the next days route.
That morning we woke up to a deer wandering through the park and as she approached our site, and large, gray cat jumped out of some bushes and chased that deer right out of the park! It was the funniest thing I ever saw. Never really heard of a guard cat before but I guess there is a first time for everything.
