Well today was just a crappy day. I only did 11 miles, and was so ready for it to end when Nathan came and picked me up because it was cold and raining pretty hard all day. The crappy part was since I was on the highway, it was super busy, and the spray from the cars was so cold. No to mention, people were just being asses about moving over into the other lane. Don’t think they understood what it’s like to constantly get sprayed by dirty, gross road water…
When I got into Kingsport and called Nathan to come get me, I got stopped by two men in a truck and they asked if I wanted anything to eat or drink. I said no thanks; my ride was coming to get me. He asked again, and I said if he wanted to get me a hot chocolate or something, that would be nice. He processed to ask if I wanted any Wild Turkey bourbon with my hot chocolate, and said that it would warm me up real-fast. I laughed, and said no thank you. It was then that Nathan called me to see where I was, of course I had no idea, so I let Nathan talk to the man driving the truck and they had a quick conversation, and hung up.
They asked me who I staying with tonight and I told them it was someone who lived back in Church Hill, the man driving asked who, and I said Nathan. The two men looked at each other, then back to me, and asked Nathan who? I told them his wife was Michelle and they both started laughing and laughing and told me that the man driving was Nathan’s cousin. Small world.
Nathan showed up a few minutes later and we all had a good giggle about it. Then Nathan took me back to his house for one more night. It was only 1:30 in the afternoon, and we sat around talking the entire afternoon basically. Funk and his son came by, and Funk offered to let me go on a ride along tonight.
We left around 5, and stopped by his house and he changed and then we were off. I had a really good night; we went 110 mph down the highway with the lights and sirens and got dinner at a Chinese buffet and made a few house calls, and one call to the hospital to check on a drunk guy who didn’t want to stay in bed. For the most part, we just did patrols and listened to country music all night, it was awesome. Thanks for the ride Funk!
I got back to Nathan’s house around 10:30, and went straight downstairs and pasted out.
