What a relaxing day! Woke up late, ate a huge breakfast, and finally got some work done.
I headed over to the hospital at 2:30 and met up with some great ladies that work there and a reporter from ABC channel 19 in Kingsport. We did an interview, and then I had to opportunity to met one of the kids there that day. His name is Nick, and his mom had a great story about a woman I met back in Rogersville a few days ago:
It was Friday afternoon, and a ton of people had stopped that day to talk to me and a woman and her daughter happened to be among them. They stopped to check out what I was up to, and when I told them I was walking for Beads of Courage, the mom said her husband works with a guy that has a son in the BOC program. I asked if she sees this family very often and she said yes, so I said she needs to bring him a bead! I stopped and filled out a card with one of the last beads I got in South Dakota. We talked a few more minutes, and they were on their way.
Today at the hospital, Nick's mom tells me that the woman I met on the road was talking about her son, Nick! Their husbands work together, and she told me that the mother I met in Rogersville called her Friday afternoon and told her about meeting me on the side of road, and that I gave her a bead to give to her son, who of course, turns out to be Nick! So now Nick has TWO beads! One from me on the side of the road, and one from me at the hospital! What a small, small world! Does that make sense? lol, hard to write it down without knowing names... sorry. haha
Speaking of small worlds. Another random story from today: I called the store in Kentucky where I bought my boyfriend's Christmas present because it hadn't arrived at his dad's house yet. I talked with Chris, the guy I had originally dealt with a few weeks ago. He told me that the package would probably arrive today (and it did, and I don't want to mention the name of the store yet, because that could give away what it is!!). Anyway... then he told me that he had talked to his brother about me after I left that day, and it turns out that I met his brother while he was riding his bike cross country earlier this summer!!!!! REALLY!!!????? TWO small world stories in one day! I know I have met a lot of people on this adventure, but this is pretty crazy.
