(3rd) First day back after a nice, relaxing two week break for the holidays. It felt rather appropriate to be starting the last leg of my journey from the town of Travelers Rest, SC.
I had 20 miles to do today, and luckily it was sunny out because when I started to the temperature was 20, with a wind chill of 5. I was nicely bundled up so I warmed up in no time. I spent about the 1st 12 miles on a rails-to-trails trail which I had pretty much to myself since it was so cold out this morning. I walked through some old, run down industrial areas, which always fascinate me because I’m always curious as to how old the buildings are, and what they used to be used for. I also walked through some nice parks and cute historic areas before reaching downtown Greenville; which I love because it has a beautiful river and waterfall right in the middle of town, and a nice historic area. Probably didn’t hurt that the weather was prefect…
While I was walking into town, I came across a man who had a grocery bag and was picking up things off the ground. I asked if what he was picking up was trash, to which he replied yes, yes it was, and he does it every day during his lunch break. He said he loved the park, and liked to keep it looking beautiful, and it was a good way for him to get some exercise. What a great idea! I thanked him, and told him we need more people like him in the world, he smiled and hurried away before lunch was over.
I spent the afternoon walking down the highway towards Anderson, my stop for tomorrow. Not a whole lot more than that. I should mention that I did not do a blog for yesterday, because it was basically spent getting back up here to Greenville via Greyhound bus with all the crazy people talking on the phone even when there was no calls being made, and the woman talking to Jesus the ENTIRE 3 hours…
Lee, Hubert and their daughter came and picked me up around 5 right where I needed to be, and we came home and ate spaghetti for dinner and I planned out my route for tomorrow, even though I still don’t know where I will be staying.
