My goal for the day was 21 miles, which would leave with a short day on the 9th since I was going over another pass and I would have BMW with me. However, mother nature had different plans, and I only got 16 in.
I started in Belgrade and was making my way past Bozeman into the pass I would be crossing tomorrow. The day started off cool, but quickly heated up and wasn't too bad, but the humidity was up and the air was stagnant. i was also on the frontage road all day, which usually isn't too bad, but since there was no breeze it got a little uncomfortable. I finally found some trees in a cemetery to sit and have a break under and that was a little weird, but nice and quite and cool.
Once I got into Bozeman I was getting really hungry and as I came off the frontage road, I saw a sandwich cart! I was pretty excited to have something other than a meal bar, so I got a roast beef sandwich with onions and tomatoes and avocado and mayo with a sweet iced tea. At this point the clouds had finally started to move in, so I found a spot next to the train tracks that was quite and out of the way.
Monica was kind enough to hide my rain jacket for me since the rain was on it's way. I found it, and pushed hard to get as far as I could. Once I was on the freeway, I was moving pretty fast, when I noticed a funny looking little bird on the side of the road; it was baby turkey! Two of them actually, and mom. eating bugs I suppose, but they were so cute trying to hide from me. I got a few pictures on my phone, and as I was walking a away, a man down below yelled for me to stop, and processed to tell me about the nasty storm coming our way with bad hail, and lighting and nasty winds. I decided it was probably a good enough time to stop have Monica come get me.
We ran some errands since I was done early, and I got a another pair of shoes at 20% off! And did you know Montana doesn't have sales tax? Even better. I also went to ACE and got a new construction vest and some duct tape. I taped "WALK 4 COURAGE" on it, so on days I don't have BMW people will still be able to see what I am doing, and ask questions if they want to.
This was my last night with Monica with Monica and we watched a movie, and I got everything together to get back on the road tomorrow and still not knowing where I would be sleeping... Forgot what that felt like and I better get use ito it again, because after this it is going to be a long, lonely stretch to Rapid City.
