Today I woke up with the sun, said good bye to my nice neighbors, and left before the loud, obnoxious, jerks woke up.
Today was pretty easy. Mostly downhill, but pretty hot. I went through 5 liters of water and probably could have had more. Not a whole lot happened today. Did get to meet some nice guys who were riding across America from Chicago to Seattle. They were funny, took lots of pictures with me and wished me well and said that they were no longer going to complain at all after meeting me and learning about what I was doing. Great ego boost.
They had caught me just as I got into St. Regis where I would be staying for the night. I stopped at the visitors center and picked up some maps for camping. Then went back down the road to Nugget RV Park which was way up a hill!!!!!! Not what I wanted. It was also two miles from the exist... That meant a total of 6 miles out of my way.
The park was great. Very clean, with a cute little old town with original buildings... I camped behind those and was the only camper which was really nice. I meant some RV'ers at the front office and told them about my Walk. They invited me for dinner, and said I could talk with their friends and thought maybe I could get some donations out of it. I said yes, and went to shower and clean up before 6.
I thought there was only going to be a few couples for dinner, but there were 40 people there!!! It was a Good Sam Club from the Bitterroot Valley. They had tons of delicious finger food: chicken wings, crackers with humus, little cups with salmon, doubled eggs... All so good! After we ate, one of the gentlemen got up and said a few things and then announced me to get up and talk to everyone. Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I hate talking in front of large crowds, so I was just a little terrified. But I did pretty well, and everyone had questions and we had some good laughs. When I was done, one women stood up and said she and her husband were going to pay for my night there ($25 to camp!!!!) and everyone else should think about donating as well. A plate was passed around and I collected $200! Thank you guys!!!!!!
I went back to my tent after all that food and two glasses of wine and I slept like a log under the stars. It was perfect.
