Today was a super short day, 15 miles. I didn't have BeadMW with me, so I could walk down the back roads. Colleen from Charles City, IA was coming up to take BMW to Waukon for me, so I could stay off the crazy highways with no shoulder.
It went by very fast, and was absolutely beautiful! Walked through hills with the oaks, ashes, and maples changing.
When I was about 5 miles out of Waukon, I passed a sign for a winery called Empty Nest winery, it was only .3 miles down a dirt road, so I thought I would give it a try since I would be about an hour earlier than Colleen to the hotel, and I'm so glad I did! What a cute little place! With some good wine too. They had some nice "regular" wine, and berry wines, and fruit wines. All done by hand in small batches. The woman who ran it was really nice, and it had a nice, relaxed feel to it. Highly recommend it!
After my side trip, I headed off to Waukon, and met a man from the paper and Colleen at the same time downtown, and took some pictures and talked about my day tomorrow. He was nice enough to find someone who could help me out with BMW again, yes! Thank you!
Then I came down to Stoney Creek Inn and got checked into my room. Very clean and cute, with the outdoor theme. Ate dinner in my room, and spent the rest of night working on "homework" and watching some TV.
